COSEY COMPLEX - A Special Cosey Day at the I.C.A.

Am 27.03.2010 wird im Londoner Institute of Contemporary Arts (I.C.A.) eine Tagung zum Werk von Cosey Fanni Tutti (COUM Transmissions, Throbbing Gristle, Chris & Cosey u.a.) stattfinden. Der Veranstaltungsort ist eng verknüpft mit der Geschichte der Künstlerin und ihrer Projekte, da dort 1976 die legendäre Aktion "Prostitution" stattfand, die CT und TG den Beinamen Wreckers of Civilisation einbrachte. Die Veranstaltung ist als Mischung zwischen wissenschaftlichem Symposion und Kunstfestival angekündigt, es sind sowohl Vorträge und Diskussionen als auch künstlerische Performances geplant. "Cosey Complex is a one-day event conceived by writer Maria Fusco that forms a new commission from the Institute of Contemporary Arts.

In her roles as fiction writer, art critic, editor and lecturer Fusco is interested in 'writing with art'. Cosey Complex has developed from an in-depth interview between Fusco and artist and musician Cosey Fanni Tutti, published in issue one of the experimental art writing journal The Happy Hypocrite. The interview discussed the issue’s theme 'Linguistic Hardcore' in relation to Cosey's work, together with Fusco's own interest in language, naming structures and the power they seem to suggest. Fusco has subsequently developed ideas around how 'Cosey' as concept might be explored as 'methodology'.

The event will be convened by Fusco and will invite a mixture of practitioners to consider 'Cosey as Methodology'. Submissions selected from a call for papers, alongside invited contributors, will respond to the overall theme; participation will take the form of more traditional forms of presentation, such as academic or discussion panels, alongside experimental responses, investigation and performances. The main aim of the event is to further interrogate the implications of Cosey Fanni Tutti's work, without direct reference to the work itself; to put research directly into practice; to delve deeper into the cultural and dialogical implications of 'Cosey'.
