David Tibet's festival in Austria on 20 & 21 April: additions

I am delighted to say we have added the following acts to the bill: PANTALEIMON, SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE and HUSH ARBORS.

I am equally delighted to announce that the legendary JG Thirlwell will be performing a DJ set on one of the nights. The other DJ artist is yet to be confirmed. We expect the website for the Donau Festival to be active next week, with full details of the acts, and tickets to go on sale at roughly the same time.

Some details follow about JG Thirlwell for those who are unaware of this singular and remarkable individual:

"JG Thirlwell is a composer/producer/performer based in Brooklyn. He was born in Melbourne, Australia, where he studied art at Melbourne State College for two years before moving to London in 1978. After working with experimental group Nurse With Wound, JG started making his own records in 1980, initially releasing them with his own label, Self Immolation. He was inspired by the post-punk explosion of creativity in the UK which engendered the accessibility of DIY, and the writings of John Cage and systems music, among other things. He then relocated to NYC in 1983 where he still lives in Brooklyn, between travels.

"JG's catalogue is extensive, under many pseudonyms including Foetus, Steroid Maximus, Manorexia, Baby Zizanie, Wiseblood and others. If there is a common thread to his varied musical styles it is a dramatic intensity and an evocative, cinematic quality. He considers the studio his main instrument. His oeuvre stretches the gamut from cathartic noise-rock to abstract electronics, orchestrations, big band and sound sculpture, serial music and imaginary soundtracks, sometimes all in the same piece.

"In recent years, with commissions for Kronos Quartet, Bang On A Can and LEMUR and in his occasional eighteen piece ensemble he has been increasingly interested in electronically and sample generated music being re-scored for traditional instrumentation played both conventionally and not. JG is also a member of the "freq_out" collective, who create on-site sound and light installations led by curator Carl Michael Von Hausswolf. Additionally, he has recently made some site specific laptop performances and collaborations, and has been scoring "The Venture Brothers" show on Adult Swim/Cartoon Network."

Don Bradshaw-Leather: 'Distance Between Us' 2CD set reissue of this masterpiece (and one of the greatest albums evereverever made) on Durtro Jnana

We are delighted to announce that Durtro Jnana are to be reissuing Don Bradshaw-Leather's masterpiece, 'Distance Between Us', in association with his family, as a 2CD set with full liner notes, texts and photos. This unearthly, powerful and unique work of genius was originally issued in England as a double LP in 1972 on the artists's own Distance Records label, in an edition of around 300 to 400 copies, and never had any mainstream distribution. It contained four tracks: 'Distance Between Us Part 1', 'Distance Between Us Part 2', 'Dance Of The Goblins' and 'Autumn Mist'. Steven Stapleton's inclusion of it on his famous list of inspirational records in the insert that came with the first NWW album, 'Chance Meeting...' brought it to wider attention. More details on our Durtro Jnana release when they are finalised.

Thomas Ligotti: The Conspiracy Against the Human Race

Thomas Ligotti has written the following text about his forthcoming book on Durtro. We now expect the book to be 73,000 words--over 200 pages--long.

"A preeminent name in the genre of supernatural horror fiction, Thomas Ligotti is known as the creator of superbly imagined and superlatively written works that convey a monolilthically nightmarish vision of human existence. His latest work, "THE CONSPIRACY AGAINST THE HUMAN RACE", illuminates the personal credo underlying that vision. Subtitled "The Horror of Life and the Art of Horror", this book comprises an excursion through the darker byways of literature, philosophy, psychology, and other disciplines commonly advanced as the pride and joy of human endeavor, approaching its themes in the uncompromisingly bleak and often blackly humorous manner familiar to readers of Ligotti's tales. A work of nonfiction, THE CONSPIRACY AGAINST THE HUMAN RACE is also the author's ultimate horror story, a grotesque and uncanny narrative whose subject is that of life itself. Format, cost, and other details to be announced."

with love to you all,

David Tibet +++
